NAACP 35th Annual Freedom Fund Dinner

“Embracing Hope & Change” was the theme of this year’s Freedom Fund Dinner, presented by the San Diego Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

"The NAACP, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, is the oldest, largest and strongest civil rights organization in the United States. The principal objective of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of minority group citizens of the United States…." NAACP, San Diego

United Domestic Workers with 20 members and staff attending the event in support of NAACP  honoree, Doug Moore, was one of the major sponsors of the event.

This year, rather than having one keynote speaker, honorees were encouraged to have remarks.

Douglas Moore Jr., Executive Director of the United Domestic Workers of America, received the A. Phillip Randolph Community Service Award for his work with organized labor. He addressed the battle to get the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to give home care providers a livable wage contract.
