I am concerned about the structure of IHSS. If the provider background check is in place it will destroy one of the most basic rules of the program. Clients get to choose who will care for them and if that person has a criminal record then they are refused. Maybe that is the mother, sister, daughter of the client. Also, many times it’s the CLIENT has a worse record than the provider. Case in point, I cared for a murderer, killed his wife. I had to move him in my home because he needed 24-7 care. I have a record from 9 yrs ago before I quit drinking. I payed my penalty to society and I’m not on probation, parole, etc…but my client WAS. This is wrong and personally, I’ll take it to court if they tell me I can’t care for my disabled son.
