SHE GIVES UP HER LIFE
SO THAT I MAY LIVE
SHE GIVES UP MORE
THAN ANYONE SHOULD GIVE
SHE WORKS LONG HOURS
PUTS IN 24/7
I LIVE IN HELL
SHE’S MY SLICE OF HEAVEN

Thanks to IHSS Donna & Randy Chew share their 30th wedding anniversary at home with the hopes of many more to come. Randy gets to spend each day with his grandsons instead of being in a nursing home. For this he is truly thankful to IHSS.
I started this out as a poem.
But there’s nothing poetic or pretty about the life I lead. I suffer in pain every day. She cries when I cry. Now she wants me to tell you my story.
I suffer from a genetic blood disorder, diabetes, high blood pressure and so on. My disease is autoimmune and I keep getting recurring infections in the diabetic ulcers on my feet. I’ve been through 3 total renal failures, four comas and at least a dozen pic lines.
Pain management says they can’t help me. And some time in the next couple months the doctors are going to amputate my right leg below the knee. Doctors say i have only a 20 to 30% chance of survival. You see, I weigh 650 pounds. Not the best candidate for surgery.
But with my wife there with me with strength and prayer, I hope to make it through. She gets me to the doctor, especially when I don’t want to go. She won’t let me quit. I’d probably already be dead if she wasn’t there to push me. She’s my rock. With the help that IHSS provides through the money she earns, I’m able to live at home and be with my family. I could never survive alone in a nursing home. Please, please, see to it that IHSS is available to serve people such as my self.
THANK YOU
