News10 abc MODESTO, CA – Patients and workers from the In Home Support Services industry in Stanislaus County took their complaints about fraud investigators to county supervisors Tuesday.
About 6,000 people in the county, either elderly or disabled or both, rely on help from those workers. However, because of several cases of fraud, Stanislaus County continues to have fraud investigators visit those homes to verify information about patients.
Many don’t appreciate those visits.
“I just want to let you know it’s sad how people came in my home and treated me like a criminal. And I did nothing wrong,” said Julie Valenzuela.
County official Christine Applegate said the investigations started in 2009 after the state stopped making home visits. She said the county has not received any official complaints about alleged abuse.
“I’m very concerned that people are fearful in their homes. Our investigators are professionals. They ask questions. They don’t intimidate or coerce people,” said Applegate
