December 6th, Sacramento — Governor Schwarzenegger has released his special session budget proposals (see link below) and is not suggesting any reductions to IHSS.   Nick Buchen (Department of Finance) says the Administration’s guiding principle in developing the special session proposal was to reintroduce items that not adopted frm the Governor’s May Revise proposal.  Because there was a negotiated agreement on IHSS for the FY 10/11 budget, the Governor did not include any additional proposals to reduce funding for IHSS in for the new special session.

Republican Steve Cooley conceded the California Attorney General’s election to Democrat Kamala Harris on November 24th.  Harris–endorsed by UDW–led Cooley by more than 50,000 votes with approximately 153,000 ballots still to be counted.  Read the rest of this entry »

Legislative Analyst Office Projects Ongoing Budget Deficits of At Least $20 Billion Through 2016 – Sweeping Cuts to State Spending Likely To Be Considered Next Year by New Governor & Legislature

SACRAMENTO, CA (CDCAN) [Updated 11/10/2010 01:10 PM (Pacific Time)] – The Legislature’s chief budget analyst – the non-partisan Legislative Analyst Office (LAO), released a report today that projects that California’s budget deficit will swell to $25.4 billion by the end of the 2011-2012 State Budget year that will likely mean more sweeping spending cuts to major state programs next year.
