Has your client been impacted by increased Share of Cost for IHSS?

There are ways many people could qualify for IHSS without a share of cost.  It is possible that a client’s IHSS Share of Cost can be reduced or eliminated through the correct documentation.  Many consumers need help with this process because IHSS Share of Cost rules can be complicated.  Here is information on  how to get help…

IHSS and a Share of Cost

  • Do you know anyone who is being hurt or has been hurt by the increase in the Share of Cost?
  • Anyone you know who has ended up in a hospital or nursing home because they could not pay the share of cost for IHSS?
  • Anyone who has had to give up IHSS because they could not pay the share of cost and whose health has gotten worse?
  • Anyone we have lost because the person with a disability could not pay the share of cost for the IHSS needed?

When you call say “I am calling about my IHSS share of cost problem” or “I am calling about someone who was hurt because of the IHSS share of cost.”

Why should you call us?

There are ways many people could qualify for IHSS without a share of cost or for other benefits that would help them stay in the community.  We also want to know about people who were hurt because the State and County did not tell them about other options.

Thank you – Seyfarth Shaw LLP, Western Center on Law & Poverty, Disability Rights Legal Center,  Legal Aid Fdn of Los Angeles, Disability Rights California, representing IHSS recipients in No. Calif. ADAPT vs. Calif. Dept. of Social Services.

My client Raquel Santiao has not had a share of cost increase but instead due to apparent new “state Law” has had a decrease of hours due to budget cuts, according to her social worker she now has to stay either in bed when i am not there or just “admit her to the hospital” My client is wheelchair bound but when with me is active and able to get out and do things. Without my help i fear she will fall again or get hurt but they dont seem to care. Dont they get that if our clients are in the hospital it costs more money then the in home care. Or are they really just that stupid.
