In those states facing a budget shortfall, revenues from corporate taxes, already at historically low levels, declined $2.5 billion in 2010, while corporate profits jumped 28% in 2010 (3rd quarter) to $1.6 trillion, the biggest one-year jump in history. Income for the wealthiest Americans grew five-fold. Meanwhile, wages fell for everyone else. Here’s what California’s economy looks like:

• Medi-Cal : cut
• SSI : cut
• Developmental disabilities programs : cut
• CalWORKs : slashed
• Adult day health care : eliminated
• Student fees : hiked
• Home mortgage foreclosures : rampant
• Pay cuts, furloughs, and severe, long-term unemployment : rampant

This is OBSCENE. We reject the Republican agenda which curries favor with corporate fat cats while the vulnerable suffer and die. We can humanely balance this budget if we:

• Reinstate top income tax brackets
• Close corporate tax loopholes
• Reform Prop 13 to tax commercial properties
• Impose an oil severance tax
