On April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, where he had gone to stand with sanitation workers demanding the right to bargain collectively for a voice at work.
Like Dr. King, Cesar Chavez – who was born March 31 – inspired a generation through his tire-less advocacy for workers’ rights. His heroic pursuit of social justice on behalf of low-income and migrant workers brought a voice to those who needed it most.
Today, the dream that Dr. King and Cesar Chavez inspired so many to fight for still echoes across California and the nation. It is the belief that it is a fundamental right of all working people – black, white, Latino or Asian American–to join together to fight for a better life.
Join us on April 4, 2011 to stand in solidarity with working people in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana and dozens of other states.
It’s a day to show California and the rest of the nation:
WE ARE ONE!
