Why:  Trigger Cuts:  More Cuts Higher Education & Health Human Services
–$2.5 billion

The California legislature included three bills in the July budget that created a mechanism for automatic trigger cuts. This trigger cut mechanism depends on whether state revenues match up with a projection of $4 billion in additional revenue for California this year. If our revenue target is not being met, $2.5 billion in deep cuts will be made to Health and Human Services and Education in a two-tiered approach. Announced in December, and implemented January 1st, if these Trigger Cuts take place they will be deep, abrupt, and come after an overwhelming series of crippling budget actions.
