Ind. GOP wants workers to walk their right-to-work-for-less plank
Indiana Republicans passed their single-plank job creation plan on the House floor yesterday. Whether or not workers will be forced to walk that plank is up to the state Senate as they take up the right-to-work-for-less legislation.
Members of the Democratic caucus opened the chamber doors during the vote so that hundreds of pro-worker demonstrators gathered in the statehouse could be heard. The activists chanted in support of Indiana working families as the anti-worker legislators inside voiced their support for the right-to-work-for-less. The bill passed the House by a 54-44 margin, with 39 Democrats and five Republicans voting no. The legislation has been fast-tracked and could be heard by the full Senate as soon as Wednesday. AFSCME activists and our allies have switched their focus to that chamber, thanking senators who voted against right-to-work-for-less in the past, pressuring other undecided legislators to do the right thing this time around. |
