This afternoon, activists turned in more than one million petition signatures calling for the recall of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, far exceeding the 540,208 names required to trigger a recall election. To put things in perspective, Walker received 1,128,159 votes in 2010.
Badger State petitioners surpassed their goals with five other recall targets, gathering at least 20 percent more signatures than needed to initiate recall elections for Lt. Gov Rebecca Kleefisch, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald and state Sens. Van Wanggaard, Terry Moulton and Pam Galloway. Before turning the petitions into the Government Accountability Board, they were kept in a secret location—AFSCME headquarters in Madison.
Walker will not be in Wisconsin for the delivery of the recall petitions to the GAB, as he will be in New York City at a Wall Street fundraiser hosted by former AIG CEO Hank Greenberg. |
