Welcome CUHW providers to UDW!

May 15, 2015

Dear CUHW providers,

Earlier this year, California United Homecare Workers (CUHW) announced that it will merge with United Long Term Care Workers (ULTCW) of SEIU and the United Domestic Workers (UDW) of AFSCME in order to maximize resources and better serve homecare providers.

We are pleased to inform you that IHSS providers in your county will now be serviced by UDW, and local homecare leaders are currently in discussions with the county to formally recognize UDW as our union.

In light of the attacks waged against homecare in recent years, IHSS providers must stand together in order to protect the IHSS program and our clients. This realignment will provide IHSS providers with much-needed resources, additional staff assistance, and expertise.

As homecare providers, we know that we are stronger when we stand in solidarity with one another. In the coming weeks and months, we will do everything in our power to ensure that providers experience a smooth transition. Please see the enclosed information to learn more about the UDW benefits and resources that are now available to you.

Note yet a union member? Join us! In addition to building a stronger voice for caregivers and our clients, union membership allows you to access UDW benefits and resources, including free classes for caregivers, low-cost dental insurance and help with IHSS hours and issues. Click here to enroll today.

If you would like to get involved or have any questions, please contact us at 1-800-621-5016.

We look forward to meeting you soon! Together, we are on a much stronger footing to win improvements for IHSS providers and our families.

In unity,
Douglas Moore, Jr.
UDW Executive Director
