SACRAMENTO – UDW/AFSCME 3930 Executive Director Doug Moore issued the following statement in support of Governor Gavin Newsom’s budget proposal:

“By using his first proposed budget to finally, permanently, restore the 7 percent cut to our state’s crucial In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program, Governor Gavin Newsom is proving that his commitment to addressing California’s long-term care crisis is sincere.

“IHSS allows low-income seniors and people with disabilities to live at home in comfort and dignity, at a much lower cost than institutionalization. But when the 7 percent across the board cut to service hours was in effect, hundreds of thousands of these Californians went without all of the hours of care they so desperately need and deserve. We must provide robust and stable funding for this crucial program to meet the needs of a state with a large and rapidly aging population.

“Gov. Newsom pledged to be a champion for long term care and permanently restoring IHSS funding honors that pledge. UDW caregivers are proud to have worked hard to help elect Governor Newsom, and are proud to continue to partner with his administration to provide care for everyone who needs it.”
