On June 14, 2005, UDW's National Union – AFSCME – began managing UDW's day-to-day operations because its top elected officials mismanaged the union's finances. Since then, UDW's former leadership has resigned.

In July, U.S. District Judge Barry Ted Moskowitz re-affirmed the administratorship, ruling that “if the administratorship is not imposed…AFSCME may completely lose the ability to protect itself and the members of UDW.”
