All in for Care is our union’s campaign to win better wages and benefits for IHSS providers around the state. As we head to the bargaining table in several counties across California, providers will be coming together to win improvements for our families.

And for the first time ever, IHSS providers in Riverside, San Diego, and Orange counties are at the bargaining table with the state. This is a new and important opportunity to increase wages and benefits for the nearly 60,000 UDW providers in these counties.

TAKE ACTION: Call your lawmaker today and tell them to support pay and benefit increases for IHSS providers: 1-866-584-5792.

IHSS providers in San Diego are being denied minimum wage

IHSS providers in San Diego are being denied minimum wage

In June, San Diego voters passed Proposition I, which increased the minimum wage for those working within the city limits to $10.50 an hour on July 1, 2016 However, IHSS providers working in the city of San Diego may have noticed that this increase was not reflected in our July paychecks. It’s the latest development in an on-going dispute over unfair treatment of caregivers and our clients. A few weeks ago, both the San Diego IHSS Public Authority and UDW sent the state letters demanding to know its plans in regards to the wage increase. Yesterday, we heard from the […]

By Briana Callix, Merced Sun Star, May 2, 2016 The union representing 2,100 workers who provide home care assistance to low-income Merced County residents is pressing for a new contract that would boost their pay to more than minimum wage and guarantee them health coverage. Leaders of the local United Domestic Workers union protested before last week’s county Board of Supervisors meeting and then spoke during the body’s public comment period. “A minimum wage increase is not an increase for home health care providers,” said Crystal Mendes, a resident of Hilmar. Caregivers represented by the San Diego-based union provide services […]

IHSS providers in Riverside and San Diego attend first ever state-level bargaining meeting

IHSS providers in Riverside and San Diego attend first ever state-level bargaining meeting

Last week, IHSS providers in Riverside and San Diego came together in San Diego for our first round of contract negotiations with the state. We sat down with representatives from the California Department of Human Resources, who represent the IHSS Statewide Authority, to take the first step in a multi-step process toward a new contract that will cover both counties. This meeting comes after our initial meeting in June when Riverside County providers met with state representatives to prepare for state-level bargaining. San Diego County moved into the process soon after and Orange County providers will join us in 2016. Before the move to state-level […]

IHSS providers in Riverside and San Diego move to state-level bargaining

June 12, 2015 This week, in a historic first meeting, homecare providers in Riverside County met with representatives from the state to prepare for contract negotiations at the state-level. Up until now, homecare workers have had to bargain for better wages and benefits at the county level, a frustrating process that has caused wages to stagnate in many counties throughout the state where lawmakers have refused to invest in IHSS. This changed for several counties with the passage of the SB 1036 in July 2012. A provision in the law allowed for the eight pilot counties to move from county to state-level bargaining. […]
