Homecare and child care providers rally together to urge lawmakers to expand quality child care

June 4, 2015 Hundreds of homecare workers rallied and marched with child care providers on Wednesday at the State Capitol to urge lawmakers to pass SB 548 – The Raising Child Care Quality and Accessibility Act. The act would expand access to child care, provide training, authorize a study on how to best support parents, and extend collective bargaining rights to child care providers. May 14, 2015 On May 14, Governor Jerry Brown released a revised version of his proposed 2015-16 state budget. Like his January proposal, the budget outlines a way to end to the 7% cut to IHSS hours starting on July 1, 2015, but our work is far from done. Lawmakers still need to pass a budget that restores the hours, and we will also be working to make sure this restoration is permanent. Yesterday IHSS providers and clients converged at the State Capitol to tell legislators to end a recession-era 7% cut to IHSS hours of care that our clients desperately need. Together with UDW and other homecare workers from across the state, we saw to it that our voices were heard.
