Telephone town hall welcomes newest UDW members and gives important overtime update

Yesterday, we hosted a tele-town hall to welcome our sisters and brothers from CUHW into the UDW family. About 1,600 providers participated in the call, and 200 viewed our livestream. With the help of our host, UDW’s Organizing and Field Services Director Matthew Maldonado, we discussed our UDW member benefits, heard an update on overtime pay for IHSS providers, and talked about our campaign to end the 7% cut permanently. The Right to Unite

Last week, Stanislaus County UDW homecare provider Lidia Rodriguez attended the premiere of Alliance for Justice‘s “Right to Unite,” a documentary that highlights the importance of in-home care at a time when Supreme Court cases like Harris v. Quinn and Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association try to weaken homecare workers and other public employees. Lidia and her homecare clients are featured in the documentary. Victory: Critical IHSS hours restored

All of our hard work made a difference, and this week lawmakers announced an end to the 7% cut to IHSS hours of care. IHSS clients will be receiving a Notice of Action in the mail with their new hours, which will be restored starting July 1, 2015.
