By ABC News, November 15, 2013 Chris Miller, 13, of West Palm Beach, Fla., is a free spirit always seeking the next thrill, but he also carries the weight of a responsibility that leaves him in constant fear. Chris is the primary caregiver to his grandmother Dixie Miller, 63. While his classmates are getting ready for school, Chris is busy getting his grandmother ready for the day. When the school day ends, he races home to care for Miller, whom he’s lived with for the last 10 years.

Homecare workers win overtime protections!

San Diego homecare provider Michelle Wise speaks about meeting President Obama in Washington in 2011, when he vowed to grant U.S. caregivers basic labor protections like overtime hours and a minimum wage. In September of this year it was announced that the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) had been successfully amended to include in-home care providers. The changes will go into effect January 2015.
