Trainings, Classes, and Workshops

All UDW members have access to free classes and workshops through the California Independent Providers Training Center (CAIPTC). Additionally, providers in Orange, San Diego, and Riverside counties who have Kaiser health insurance have access to free workshops like stress management, healthy eating, and more through the Kaiser Wellness Plan.

New classes and locations are added throughout the year so make sure to check back here for updates! CAIPTC offers courses in:

  • Family Caregiving: Gain practical skills and coping strategies that will help you provide at-home care.
  • Adult & Child First Aid/CPR/AED: Learn life-saving skills to know what to do in a cardiac, breathing or first aid emergency.
  • Eat Healthy, Be Active: 2-part course that will teach you about simple changes for a healthier lifestyle. Topics include: eating healthy on a budget, cooking quick and healthy meals, and more. Attend both dates to receive a certificate.
  • American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens Training: A new course designed for those who risk on-the-job exposure to blood and other bodily fluids.
  • US Citizenship: For providers in the Santa Maria area, this open enrollment class will prepare you to take the USCIS required oral interview and exam.
  • And more!

Free classes and workshops through Kaiser Wellness

  • Back Care: Providers will learn how to protect and strengthen their backs, and practice posture, positioning, stretches, and gentle exercises — which can lead to better productivity and fewer workplace absences due to back pain.
  • Healthy Eating: Find out what a healthier diet can do for you, including lowering the risk of certain chronic conditions. You’ll discuss the tricks to eating well and making healthy snack choices.
  • Healthy Habits: Healthy living includes motivation, health change, and goal setting. After choosing a behavior you want to target — from exercise to flossing — you will learn how to strengthen your motivation and make behavior changes that stick.
  • Healthy Sleep: Sleeping well is vital to good health and well-being. Providers will learn strategies to get the best night’s sleep.
  • Physical Activity: Increasing physical activity is one of the most important things a person can do to improve overall well-being, as well as address some health conditions. Providers will learn fun and practical ways to increase physical activity.
  • Quitting Tobacco: Providers will begin their stop-smoking journey in a positive environment. You will learn about skills, activities, and resources for quitting, and how to avoid relapse.
  • Stress Reduction: Uncontrolled stress can impact health. This course helps providers identify sources of stress and learn coping skills.
  • Weight Management: You will discover how healthy lifestyle choices, exercise, and a positive attitude can help you lose weight and keep it off for good.
