 In
June 2006, UDW's parent union, AFSCME, put the UDW in an administratorship
and ousted the reigning Officers E-Board for financial mismanagement.
After the AFSCME and remaining UDW staff put the union back into
the financial black an election was held to elect new Officers
and Executive Board for the UDW.
President McEntee came to congratulate the
new officers and board on their new positions and to the end
of the administratorship. President McEntee came with good advice
on their new duties and the seriousness of their obligations
to the members of the UDW.

UDW President Laura Reyes addressing the Governor and the legislature
in Sacramento

"Stop trying to make family providers feel guilty for getting
paid for the work they do. If anyone should feel guilty it's
you, for not making the IHSS program better for the consumers and
providers after the millions of dollars we have saved this state
over the years by keeping people out of nursing homes and other
institutions. There is one last thing I would like to tell the
governor and the legislature before I close, and that is to stop
telling us you respect us -- SHOW US you respect us
by protecting providers and the people we take care of from any
budget cuts."

"I believe we need to let our Governor know that this is not the
way to balance the California budget. There are other solutions
and IHSS clients should not be made to pay." |

UDW Legislative Director Jovan Agee (left) and organizer Bobby Benoit
(right)
contacted members from all over the state and arranged
for them to come to the capitol.
The fight to protect IHSS this year will need member support.
