It is that time of year again, and many homecare providers have questions about their income taxes and W-2’s. Questions about W-2’s W-2’s were issued in mid January. If you have not received your 2009 W-2 yet or you have questions about the wages reported, you need to contact the payroll office of the county where you work. They are not able to track a lost W-2, however the easiest way to handle the issue of missing W-2’s is to request a duplicate. The State Controller began issuing duplicate W-2’s on February 5, 2010. To request a duplicate W-2, providers should call their local county payroll office and have them request the duplicate W-2. Our county pages list these offices for each UDW county. Alternately, the "436 Duplicate Request Form" and information for getting duplicate W-2’s may be obtained directly from the State Controller’s office online at http://www.sco.ca.gov/ppsd_empinfo_dpw-2.html . The phone number for the State Controller’s W-2 division is: (916) 322–8052 Free Tax Preparation The California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) provides information on finding volunteer assistance in preparing your income taxes. FTB’s online search tool locates tax preparation sites where IRS and FTB-trained volunteers prepare basic personal income tax returns for low to moderate-income taxpayers free of charge. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites offer assistance to taxpayers regardless of age. Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) sites devote special attention to taxpayers 60 years of age and older. Locations are listed by county. The FTB Website will be updated regularly
