Although polls show that a majority of California voters oppose cuts to public service programs like public education, health care, transportation, child care, and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS),
Arnold still wants to eliminate funding for these critical programs, hurting millions of our most vulnerable citizens.
This is morally wrong and fiscally irresponsible. It will actually make California's budget problems worse.
For example, the IHSS home care program provides care to low-income elderly, blind and disabled Californians in their own homes instead of state-subsidized nursing homes or other institutions.
It costs the state $10,000 a year to care for an individual in the IHSS program. If that person is forced to go to a nursing home or other institution, it costs taxpayers $60,000 a year or more
