UDW Condemns Trump’s decision to destroy the American dream for DACA recipients

Ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is an attack on American values that will tear apart 800,000 families across the country and wreak havoc on our economy. UDW condemns this hateful move by the Trump administration and calls on Congress to immediately take action to preserve the DACA program and protect the DREAMers—those who, like many UDW members and our neighbors and loved ones, came to this country as children.

UDW caregivers provide vital in-home care for a half million seniors and Californians with disabilities so that they can remain in their homes and in our communities. We are a majority women of color, many of us immigrants or from families that have come here to be a part of the American dream. We know what immigrants bring to our communities, and what will be lost if California’s 200,000 DACA recipients are ripped from their homes in the country in which they were raised and cut off from the bright futures they have been working toward.

“These are young people who put their trust in this country, who bravely stepped up to apply for DACA so they could fulfill their dreams and fully contribute to society,” said UDW Executive Director Doug Moore. “We cannot reward their courage by accepting a decision fueled by xenophobic ignorance and an administration determined to further its own white supremacist agenda; we must fight to protect the DREAMers and keep our communities together.”
