It Takes a Village – and IHSS by Paul DeMuth

It Takes a Village - and IHSS by Paul DeMuth

It Takes a Village and IHSS … UDW Facebook 2010 Contest Winning Photo! Zoie was born August 16, 2000 weighing only 1lb. 10 oz. She was in the NICU at Kaiser for 17 weeks. We watched her in her incubator all those weeks telling God we would take her any way we could get her. We said it with love and with all our hearts, but with a bit of naivety having no idea the road that lay ahead but trusting that He would see us through. That was 10 years ago, and while the struggles have been many, the […]

For Bibi… by Lynda Labine

For Bibi… by Lynda Labine

She is only different in the eyes of others. This is a picture that represents the sweetness of my girl taken years ago but it is my favorite; the only school picture that turned out well. I suffer from a genetic blood disorder, diabetes, high blood pressure and so on. My disease is autoimmune and I keep getting recurring infections in the diabetic ulcers […]

Making Happiness Happen – by Melissa Quintana-Mitchell

Making Happiness Happen - by Melissa Quintana-Mitchell

Waiting for the doctor can be fun! This is my mother. She is 89 years old and has Alzheimer’s disease, a non healing broken elbow, and a swallowing disfunction. She remembers me about 75% of the time. To keep busy while waiting for the doctor, we made a felt carrot together in the waiting room. When the doctor came in, we shouted, “What’s Up Doc?!” and presented him with the carrot. Without IHSS, moments like these would not be possible! See great photo…
