UDW child care member, Donise Keller, had the honor of speaking at the White House about the importance of supporting #TheCareEconomy, the many gaps in our current child care systems, and some of the ways we can approach these issues nationwide. An investment in child care is an investment in our future and our economy cannot survive without the work and dedication of family child care providers like Donise and so many others across the state. February was a busy month at UDW! All across the state, we gathered for membership meetings, celebrated Black History Month, attended Tet festivals for Lunar New Year, and continued to fight for fair contracts in Kern and Merced counties! As the year progresses, we will continue to come together to build our strength, discuss important issues for for child care and home care providers, and fight for the respect our work demands! As we keep negotiating across the state, it's crucial that we all stay informed and involved because our voices are powerful when we stand together!

WHO ARE UDW?

United Domestic Workers of America (UDW/AFSCME Local 3930) is a union made up of over 171,000 home care and child care providers throughout California. UDW home caregivers provide critical services through the state’s In-Home Supportive Services program (IHSS), which allows over half a million California seniors and people with disabilities to remain in their homes with dignity and independence. Our child care members provide quality, affordable, home-based child care for thousands of California’s working families.

UDW home care is made up of 7 districts representing all IHSS providers in these 21 counties:

  • District 1 – San Diego County
  • District 2 – Orange County
  • District 3 – Riverside County
  • District 4 – Alpine, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne Counties
  • District 5 – Kern, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara Counties
  • District 6 – Butte, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sierra, and Sutter Counties
  • District 7 – Imperial County
