What a summer it has been so far! We helped win full funding of the IHSS program for three more years, meaning the end to cuts to our clients’ hours of care. And we are now on the road to improving the IHSS payroll system, so caregivers and our families no longer deal with the harmful impact of late paychecks and timesheets. An audit of the payroll system has begun, and the state announced they will begin an electronic timesheet pilot program in April 2017. UDW wins audit of broken IHSS payroll system

Lawmakers call late IHSS paychecks “an abomination” Too many IHSS providers know what it’s like to wait days, weeks, or months for a late paycheck. We know what it’s like to set our household budget for the month, only to have it thrown off completely when our check doesn’t come on time or at all. In May, we told our elected leaders “enough is enough.” After hearing testimony and comments from UDW caregivers and home care recipients at the Capitol, the state legislature’s Joint Legislative Audit Committee voted unanimously to begin an audit of the IHSS payroll system to find out what’s wrong and how to fix it. Budget Victory! IHSS hours restored for three more years

UDW caregivers have worked diligently for years to fight for full funding for the IHSS program. “When they cut IHSS, they cut our clients’ hours of care,” explained Tuolumne County caregiver Michael Patterson. “They are assessed these hours because they need them. It’s unfair to take care away from our clients.” Last year, our efforts ended IHSS cuts for one year – but that was not enough. That’s why keeping our clients cool can be vital to their health and safety. Here are a few tips to keep you and your loved ones safe during a heat wave: 1.
