Membership Dues

What are my dues used for?

Our union dues go toward building power and winning justice for homecare workers and our clients—both at the Capitol and in our local communities. Together we fight to secure better wages and benefits at our county Board of Supervisors, work to protect the homecare program in Sacramento, and advocate for our IHSS clients. Using dues money, we organize rallies and vigils, bring members and clients to the Capitol to testify on behalf of the homecare program, plan meetings and community events, and help our clients get their hours increased or reinstated when they need it. We also work to protect America’s social safety net: a portion of dues go to our powerful national union, AFSCME, which is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Because IHSS is in part funded through federal Medicaid dollars, it is critical that we ensure the federal government continues to support and fund our program.

How much does it cost?

Monthly dues are automatically deducted from the first check of each month. New providers pay a one-time initiation fee of $25, split into two payments of $12.50.
